There’s nothing new that can be said about this band or their debut album. But strip away all that you know about the Beatles and just listen to this as a debut by a ‘great Little Rock n Roll band’ (as Paul McCartney himself saw the Beatles), and you can appreciate how tight they were as a unit from the off.

It still launches through the speakers with such an exciting urgency and a sound that forces you to sit up and pay attention. ‘;’ hitting you with every note.

The Beatles combined the raw power of rock n roll with the lush harmonies of soul girl groups to create an irresistible mixture of their own; creating the foundations of ‘pop’ songwriting as we know it today.

And even in this formative stage, the signs are clearly there to see.

Love it.
